MARILYN A. NEELS

Marilyn A. Neels, age 92 of rural Dunbar, NE passed away Thursday; Feb. 16, 2023 at Good Samaritan Home in Syracuse, NE. She was born on November 5, 1930 in Nebr. City, NE; the second child of Sterling J. and Caroline E. (Heng) Kreifels. She was raised on the family farm near Paul, NE, attended country school and later attended Nebr. City High School where she graduated with the Class of 1948. Following her graduation, she worked for Harvey Risk River Construction for a few years. She was united in marriage to Orlin V. Neels on May 5, 1955 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Paul, NE. Marilyn and Orlin raised their family south of Dunbar. She was a loving housewife and homemaker and was very involved in the day-to-day duties of the family farm. She is survived by her husband of 67 years Orlin Neels; children: Ed (Sharon) Neels, Dean (Barbara) Neels, Richard (Diane) Neels, Mary (Jack) Frary, Ann (Todd) Boellstorff, Nancy (Jeff) Reed and Marla (Tim) Rowe; 24 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws Hans and Frieda Neels, beloved granddaughter Brandy Neels, and siblings and spouses: Francis “Pat” and Irma Kreifels, Jean and Don Wurtele, Joyce and Norman Kempkes, John and Janet Kreifels, Marcene and Allen Burr and Carolyn and Bob Lechner. Funeral Services will be held Monday (2/27) at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paulinus Church in Syracuse, NE. Fr. Ryan Salisbury will celebrate the Mass and burial will follow in Park Hill Cemetery at Syracuse. The family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday (2/26) at St. Paulinus Church followed by a Prayer Service/Rosary at 7 p.m. Memorials may be given to St. Paulinus Church in Syracuse or the Dunbar Fire Department. MARY LEE PIETZYK

Mary Lee Pietzyk of Syracuse, NE passed on Tuesday January 31, 2023. Mary Lee Elizabeth (Eichenberger) Pietzyk was born on April 1, 1930 in Steinauer, Nebraska to Adolf and Nora (Bradley) Eichenberger. She attended school at Pawnee City High School. After graduation, she attended Nebraska State Teachers College in Peru and the University of Nebraska, then taught grade school for several years. On June 21, 1958 she was united in marriage to Earl Pietzyk at St Mary Catholic Church, in St Mary, NE. They then bought a farm in Cook, NE, where together they raised five children. Family was the most important thing to her. She loved every minute with her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. She and Earl took several vacations across the US, Alaska, and Europe, creating lifelong memories.

Marilyn E. Wellensiek

Marilyn E. Wellensiek, 97 of Syracuse, passed away on Monday, November 21, 2022, at the Syracuse Good Samaritan Society. She was born on September 22, 1925, to Carl & Minnie (Straube) Eden in Burr. Marilyn graduated from Burr High School and started college at UNL at the age of 16. She trained as a part of the Cadet Nurse Corps at UNMC, which prepared nurses for military service. After WWII ended, she graduated as a registered nurse with a bachelor’s degree in nursing from UNMC. Marilyn married Henry F. Wellensiek on February 15, 1950, in Burr. She spent most of her nursing career at the Syracuse Community Memorial Hospital and Syracuse Good Samaritan Society and as a volunteer for various community nursing activities. Marilyn always wanted to stay busy, so when she wasn’t being a nurse, she was helping Henry on the farm, tending a huge garden, and serving as a girl scout leader. She enjoyed cooking and shared that love by teaching all her kids how to cook. Marilyn was also a die-hard Nebraska football fan. The most important thing in Marilyn’s life was her family and grandchildren. She is survived by her children: Janice Tompkins, Karl Wellensiek, Henry C. (Cathy) Wellensiek, Lee (Sharon) Wellensiek; grandchildren: Marc (Christine) Tompkins, Jill (Phil) Lisius, Eric Wellensiek, Louise (Taylor) Ryle; 6 great grandchildren; step grandchildren: PJ Bryant, Aaron (Erica) Bryant; 6 step great grandchildren: Sister-in-law: Hilda Wellensiek; also many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter-in-law Denise Wellensiek; sister Irene Eden; 1 brother-in-law & 5 sisters-in-law. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 26 at 10:00 a.m. at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in Syracuse. The service will be livestreamed on the Luther Memorial Church, NE YouTube page. Burial will follow at Park Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 25 from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. with family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m. at the f
